a few key things from leavers in Lancelin:

  • skinny dipping at midnight
  • running from a barking dog
  • carrying friend with a hurt ankle (a consequence of the previous point)
  • coats that were too short (hence the title)
  • knocking
  • running
  • giddy in the cold wet grass
  • stupid thongs
  • Midnight stroll
  • dodgey car slowing down near us at midnight on midnight stroll
  • finding out that car was in fact police
  • actually relieved it wasn’t a psycho killer (ches co sei (sp?))
  • “I like your booty but I’m not gay” gay sex gay sex
  • Some friends and I doing some strategic drinking before the beach (it’s illegal to drink in public)
  • suddenly it hitting the body on the beach while playing a rather failed game of soccer with a fitness ball (large blow up kind not medicine haha).
  • dont try to play this while intoxicated
  • delayed reaction means a major fail

haha that was a stupid list

because i have been watching very stupid tv shows

at a stupid time indeed

Just an empty room

A few pins on a lonely pin-up board

old tit-tats and useless thingemy-jigs

Someone throw me a sanity pill

I feel useless now that exams have finished

Like I’m flying and falling at the same time

and it’s awful and lonely

strange isn’t it

is this why there’s a leavers?

so instead of feeling useless

you can get smashed while also feeling useless

A few reminders today

Music exam

Hale was there

As i drifted past as a ghost; still invisible to an old lost friend

I thought about what it would be like If we were still friends

how stupid it was to go further

and how

I took our friendship for granted

Friends are worth so much more than I ever knew

I have an infinite headache

took some aspirin

nothing

drank a lot of water

nothing

turned off my lights

lay in bed

took out my hair

went to the toilet

massaged my face

NOTHING

oh man

when people say

don’t take pain killers;

you can solve it naturally

well, I don’t know

I guess the aspirin didn’t work

so that sort of prooved something

but give me someting more

this headache

it’s like a disease

give me something to release me of the pulsating pang in my head

gah

oh well

I’m going a bit over the top

But that’s just my style

and I’m allowed to be self centred here, It’s my blog, I can do what I want

haha

gosh

I’m such a hypocrite

But I guess it’s kind of nice when someone else runs into my blog and finds that they can empathise with me.

I think it’s good for them too…

so maybe being self-centred can be a good thing

maybe if we tell each other the stuff going on in our heads and then listen to their’s the world would be a better place.

I’m going to have a picture on this post

Havn’t had one in a while

I bought a scarf

you will have to see my face to see it

the only photo I have of it (at royal show)

Favourite song: Benny and the Jets (Elton John)

Favourite Band: White Lies

I’ve been trying to find ‘Got to get you into my life’ the Beatles cover by Earth Wind and Fire for quite a while and now i found it and it’s just the most satisfying thing…

This cover is amazing

You must go look at the Youtube clip of it, I think it’s from some movie.

I’m going to listen to it again I think…

(I scribbled this on brown paper when it hit me, it’s nothing knew, I just thought I’d say it…)

No one belongs in a war

Except the purposeless

 Not the stonebreaker

who’s relentless labour brought him to sleep

an infinite sleep

But there will be no sleep for you

The images of violence hacking at your mind

No silence

It’s a terribly awkward matter

‘Quick! pass me an eraser

We’re going to rub out the line

Between good and evil’

The man who never really knew what he was doing anyway

Killed the innocent

The girl that always ate her greens

Was taken to a room that swallowed her

Was there ever any use in protest?

If they were muffled by a firing squad

Maybe the wind took their message

But told it to a raven who was a cynic anyway

Emotions

Maybe I’m just a wierdo or does anyone get a wave of sadness after an exam?

like, man, I may never do that subject again. I might never need that information again.

I get it, mostly because I do useless subjects like art and then have to do an art history exam.

Like today. For art history, sometimes it’s easiest just to cram, because… well I don’t have very good reasoning, I’m sure history students don’t do it, but us fellow art students found that cramming in all these dates and details meant they were fresh in our head.

But don’t you get sad? (mega jumping around here, to keep you on your feet)

Like, all those things you learnt, and that was all it was for, except for ice breakers at wierd parties.

I can just imagine it:

Random -”Hey umm didn’t your dad get sent to jail for tax avoidence or something last week?”

Shamed Random ”umm yeah…”

“OH NO, is there someone in the room with some totally useless information who can break this icey awkardness?!”

here is my moment

Me- ”Oh yes, I did art history”

room sighs a relief

“Did you know that in the painting Liberty Leading the people by Delacroix (pron Del-ah-cwah) the man on the left in the top hat is actually Delacroix himself?”

yeah so that was a stupid pointless story, but my next exam is next monday and I don’t really want to study right now, so this will do.

Anyway, I might just leave it there, my posts get too long and no one will actually read them.

Just a house keeping matter (I always wanted to say that)

Whether you let your life be run by your posessions or not, the economy wil affect you.

We all need food and clothes and shelter.  When such things are of higher demand or in short supply, their prices will rise, leading to less usage (depending on demand elasticity).

When resources are scarce, the only way of limiting the use of them is to put a price on them.

you can apply it to anything, even externalities such as carbon emissions.

Although it is difficult to measure, firms having to buy carbon ‘credits’ might just work in limiting co2 emissions. For example, if the cost of carbon emissions rises to an unsustainable price (for the firms) they will start thinking seriously about alternative, more sustainable energy sources.

Failures in the Market Economy such as providing public goods, inequity, and stablity, bring light to Government intervention.

John Maynard Keynes pointed out that there are certain failures in a purely market based economy (based on the forces of demand and supply)

In the great depression, Keynes tried to tell the government that their attempts to ‘balance’ the government budget through saving, in a time that desperately need Government Expenditure was worsening the situation.

When the economy is in a recession or downturn (like now) the government used to think that because lower incomes meant tax reciepts were going down (incomes were decreasing due to lower employment levels and lower growth) their budget surplus was decreasing (or deficit increasing) so to balance this they thought it necessary to decrease expenditure and increase taxation. Can you imagine what this would have done to an already slow economy? It would have decreased incomes levels even further and worsened the unemployment problem.

This is why today, after people took the advice of Keynes, the Rudd government has unjected around 10 billion dollars into the economy, mainly given to pensioners, who have a larger tendency to consume.

A free, open market economy will invite efficiency and less waste. If you leave the economy to the forces of demand and supply, prices will be lower (people demand lower prices) and products will be of better quality (people demand better quality).

Monopolies arise when there is a mis-use of the market economy. Too much power brought out through merging companies will lead to higher prices and bad quality of goods and services provided.

Companies such as Nike, Monsanto and McDonalds, get away with sweatshops, corruption and low quality of goods, due to their dominance in the market.

This is perhaps another reason for government intervention, the ACCC is the Australian Competition and Consumer Comission.

An open market is devoid of any barriers to trade. Some arguments for barriers of trade include the infant industry argument stating that new small industries must be protected from overseas firms who have established economies of scale (benefits that come from large firms). The problem with this is that it is tariffs that often protect these idustries bring government revenue, so lowering tariffs would seems stupid for both the firm and government.

Trade barriers lead to bad allocation of resources as benefits are going to firms with inefficient and low production.

Trade means that we can get better living standards for lower prices, for example, Australia benefits greatly from China’s cheap imports (mainly cheap due to China’s large Population base and high industrial growth)

free trade means benefits to both the seller and the buyer.

The recent fall in the world economy was mainly due to the sub-prime market. The sub-prime market being:

Subprime lending (near-prime, non-prime, or second chance lending) is a financial term that was popularized by the media during the “credit crunch” of 2007and involves financial institutions providing credit to borrowers deemed “subprime” (sometimes referred to as “under-banked”). Subprime borrowers have a heightened perceived risk of default, such as those who have a history of loan delinquency or default, those with a recorded bankruptcy, or those with limited debt experience. Although there is no standardized definition, in the US subprime loans are usually classified as those where the borrower has a credit score below a particular level, e.g. a FICO scorebelow 660. Subprime lending encompasses a variety of credit types, including mortgages, auto loans, and credit cards.

-wiki (had to use it because i couldn’t find a decent definition)

basically what happened was a whole bunch of dodgy contracts and loans that people were never going to be able to pay off and were dependent on rising house prices. When house prices didn’t rise due to less demand and people selling them, people were in large amounts of debt so they went bankrupt.

After less and less confidence in the market, the stock market crashed. (steep rise leads to a steep crash)

So! I havn’t lost my faith in the market economy after the crash, it’s just the corruption of many financial systems and mis-allocation of resources.

I still believe that China is corrupt, It’s just that because they are quite dependent on our resources due to their high growth, we could have a bit of control in the matter.

Consumerism is still (I believe) a problem as you can’t possibly believe that it will really make you happy to just buy stuff.

The real happiness is in finding a healthy lifestyle and people you enjoy being around.

she said

my destiny

lies in the hands that set me free

The lady around the corner drowned her two children last night.

who knows why she did it

maybe she needed support

maybe she was just crazy

Do people choose everything they do?

Maybe someone wrote a massive story and this is it. Everything we just did was already decided.

but then…

If there was someone, why would they want me to think about this?

if they wanted to remain unknown

I’m never gonna know you now

but I’m gonna love you anyhow

You see, theres this road

it’s always warm when you walk on it

the sun always peeks through the trees

when you walk there

for a second

you are only a vessle for its warmth

your body disappears

for as long as it takes to breath in the sky

One distinctive memory

a boy and his sister were on the other side of the fence

the fat white men threw them a steak

as if they were hungry lions

hungry and tired

they fought over the meat

the girl screamed

putting ripples in the sand

Do we make the choice to just drift apart?

when the hundred girls said to each other that they would call and e-mail

does it really happen?

and what happened to us?
